The HGS Continuing Education Committee organizes and presents short courses, seminars, and symposia for HGS members and the local geoscience community. We use the efforts of many talented members of the Houston geoscience community to present high-quality, state-of-the-art programs on timely topics.
We pride ourselves on providing informative, up-to-date courses, seminars, and programs, which are low-cost and which the participants can use immediately in their work. We are very fortunate to have a large pool of talented and skilled geoscientists in the Houston area, who always give freely of their time and talents for the enrichment of our community. Most of our programs are 1/2 day up to 2-day courses and symposia.
A good example of the type of quality Continuing Education seminars was the March 2024 “Clastic Depositional Systems Course” presented by Dr. Mike Sweet of the University of Texas. This course covered how sediment is routed through clastic depositional systems from source to sink, identifying clastic depositional environments using core, log, and seismic data, and how the spatial organization of facies in each environment of deposition affects the subsurface flow of fluid.
